The temperature dependent anisotropy constants of epitaxially grown PrCo5+x

چکیده
The temperature dependent anisotropy of a highly textured epitaxial Pr–Co film with a single orientation of the crystallographic c-axis along MgO 001 is investigated by measuring angle dependent hysteresis loops at various temperatures. The measured magnetization curves are compared with calculated magnetization curves, which allows for a full analysis of the temperature dependent anisotropy constants of first and second order, K1 and K2 and the determination of the saturation polarization. The analysis reveals that the Pr15.4Co84.6 film undergoes a spin reorientation transition from an easy axis anisotropy to an easy cone anisotropy at 108 K. The room temperature values of K1 and K2 measured for this Pr15.4Co84.6 film are 5.0 MJ m −3 and 0.5 MJ m−3, respectively. The difference to the bulk PrCo5 single crystal values is ascribed to the high Co content of the Pr15.4Co84.6 film. © 2010 American Institute of Physics. doi:10.1063/1.3490204

ZnFe2O4 (ZFO) thin films exhibiting varying crystallographic features ((222)-epitaxially, (400)-epitaxially, and randomly oriented films) were grown on various substrates by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering. The type of substrate used profoundly affected the surface topography of the resulting ZFO films. The surface of the ZFO (222) epilayer was dense and exhibited small rectangular surface...

Highly c-axis oriented Co95Cr5 films with perpendicular anisotropy were grown epitaxially on Si ~111!, using an Ag seed layer, by physical vapor deposition. Films were characterized by x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy ~TEM!, selected area electron diffraction, and Lorentz microscopy in a TEM. The following epitaxial relationship was confirmed: (111)Sii(111)Agi(0001)CoCr ;@ 2̄2...

The dependence of the Co anisotropy constants on the measurement temperature, deposition conditions, and underlayer materials was studied using unicrystal Co~101̄0!/Cr ~or NiAl!~112!/ Ag~110! films sputter deposited on hydrofluoric acid etched Si~110! substrates. The single, in-plane easy axis orientation in these films allows the direct determination of the anisotropy constants. The anisotropy ...

The length scale of the local chemical anisotropy responsible for the growth-temperature-induced perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of face-centered cubic CoPt(3) alloy films was investigated using polarized extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS). These x-ray measurements were performed on a series of four (111) CoPt(3) films epitaxially grown on (0001) sapphire substrates. The EXAFS d...
